Bee hotel workshop now also in your kindergarten

Sustainability, environmental protection and the preservation of biodiversity are big issues that concern us all. Bee friendly is now offering bee hotel workshop boxes for fun project weeks in kindergartens or schools so that even our youngest fellow human beings are sensitized to these topics.

In a total of ten project steps, children, parents and teachers get to the bottom of the question "Why are bees so important?" and learn a lot about native wild bees, nature conservation and sustainability. Children can be introduced to the topic of biodiversity in a playful way with songs, hands-on stories, crafts and many other activities. To make planning and implementation easier, the individual project steps are each provided with methodological, didactic and content-related tips so that educators and teachers do not have to do any extra work. Apart from a few materials that are part of the standard inventory of a kindergarten or school, the bee hotel workshop box contains everything needed for the project weeks. The Bee friendly Bee Hotel Workshop Box contains:

  • Guidelines for educational professionals (including 10 project steps)
  • Bee seed bags with wildflower seeds
  • Woody wooden bees to paint
  • Filling material for bee hotels
  • Information brochures for children, parents and educators
  • Wild bee profiles

The bee hotel workshop was designed together with educators and educational scientists - so the workshop is both practical and educationally valuable.

Bee hotel workshop: “Why are bees so important anyway?”

Bees are not only farm animals that produce our honey, but also perform many other essential tasks on our planet. Honey bees, wild bees and other insects pollinate our fruit and vegetable plants so that we humans have enough to eat. Unfortunately, pollinating insects do not have it easy in Germany and Europe: the use of pesticides in industrial agriculture and urban sprawl have caused insect populations to decline by 75 percent in recent years.

The so-called insect extinction can be mitigated by a few simple measures, such as creating food sources and habitats in the form of wildflower meadows and nesting aids. To ensure that the future of our planet remains liveable, the youngest members of society must also be picked up.

Raising children's awareness of biodiversity and sustainability

The topic of sustainability is becoming increasingly relevant to society. It is the responsibility of adults to leave their children a life-friendly posterity. An important task here is to raise awareness of environmentally friendly and sustainable behavior at a young age. This lays the foundation for later life.

Bee friendly would like to make a contribution to this and support educational institutions in dealing with the topic of sustainability. But what does "sustainability" actually mean to us? Sustainability or sustainable development means that all people worldwide - now and in the future - can lead a dignified life. All people should have the opportunity to develop their needs and talents while respecting planetary boundaries. This requires strong institutions, knowledge and technologies, as well as new patterns of behavior based on participatory decision-making and constructive conflict resolution.
